Summer is placed under the sign of escape for free mobile subscribers, with a package that occupies a special place in the suitcase. The operator announced the addition of four new destinations in the internet envelope abroad of its 5G package. As of now, travelers will be able to enjoy their 35 GB of monthly data at Vietnamin Tanzania (including the island of Zanzibar), in Moldova and in the archipelago of Palaos.
This update, effective immediately and without additional cost, automatically applies to all current and future subscribers of the Free 5G package. The total number of destinations included thus increases to 117, a figure that consolidates the free offer as one of the most generous on the market.
The Price remains faithful to the operator’s promise: unchanged. The package is still offered at € 19.99/month, and at a preferential rate for the holders of a Freebox, especially at € 9.99/month for Freebox Pop subscribers.
Competition jostled by ESIM
If Free has long been the undisputed pioneer of homelessness, this new offensive is part of a fully changing competitive landscape. Other operators like Red by SFR or B & You have expanded their offers, but it is above all the rise in alternative solutions that redraw the market.
The real revolution comes from ESIM cards specializing for travel. Actors like Holafly, Airalo or Ubigi offer total flexibility with data packages targeted by country, often at very competitive prices for short stays. This trend obliges traditional operators to maintain an ultra-competitive offer to retain regular travelers … or to retaliate by launching an ESIM offer. Bouygues Telecom had drawn InternationalSim just before summer for tourists and professionals traveling abroad.
An almost unbeatable offer?
With 117 covered countries, the Free package is positioned as a solution of choice for globetrotters. The addition of Vietnam, Tanzania and Palaos is all the more strategic since these destinations are exclusive to its offer, Moldova being already proposed by certain competitors (SFR).
Despite a network that is sometimes criticized in France, the Free International Free proposal is now difficult to match. It is particularly profitable in the face of the purchase of a local SIM card in many countries. Simplicity is also a major asset: whether you have a physical SIM or ESIM, activation of data abroad is enough to take advantage of the 35 GB envelope.
