Marvel Rivals has exploded in popularity since its release, and it’s no surprise why: fun gameplay, constant updates, and a roster of iconic characters. At launch, the game had 33 characters, which has now jumped up to 46 at the time of this writing. But there’s still plenty to come. NetEase, the developing studio, has an entire universe to choose from. It’s obviously not feasible for them to add every single Marvel character, but here are 5 who I believe could be a whole lot of fun.
This list will exclude characters who I believe are inevitably going to make it into the game; that includes characters like Cyclops and Doctor Doom. Instead, I’ll focus on characters who have a slight chance of being glossed over. Without further ado, here are 5 Marvel Characters who need to be added to Marvel Rivals.
These 5 Characters Deserve to Be in Marvel Rivals
- Gwenpool
- Ant-Man
- Hyperion
- Silver Surfer
- Quicksilver
1. Gwenpool
If you thought Deadpool was an over-the-top, 4th wall-breaking character, you haven’t seen nothing yet. Gwenpool takes that to the next level. You see, Gwen was an ordinary girl living an ordinary life. But she somehow got teleported to the Marvel Universe. Gwen uses her knowledge of the Marvel Universe and the knowledge that she’s a character in a comic book to kick ass.
How would that translate to riveting gameplay? I’m not entirely sure. But if she were somehow able to make wall-breaking a key element of her arsenal, it would make her the most unique character in all of Marvel Rivals. There is some slight hope that she can make it in the game; she was a main character in NetEase’s previous game, Marvel Duel. But there hasn’t been any indication that she’s joining the roster anytime soon.
2. Ant-Man
Another character that could be tricky to develop is Ant-Man. I am, very clearly, not a video game developer, but I would imagine it’s hard to add a character into a competitive game that can shrink down to the size of an ant and who can also transform into a literal giant. However, imagine there being a character that you can play as that can do all of that, plus more.
Flying around on an ant’s back, sneakily being able to take out enemies while being miniature-sized, turning 20 feet tall to swat at out-of-reach players. Okay, all of this might be an exaggeration. But if even just a tenth of this is possible, it would be the coolest thing ever.
3. Hyperion
DC famously has Superman, but Marvel isn’t without an all-powerful character. They have Hyperion. He has similar powers to the famous Kryptonian: flight, strength, speed, laser vision, and more. So, imagine a Superman-like character being added to Marvel Rivals. The gameplay ideas and matchups could be endless.
I don’t want to make it seem like Hyperion is just a Superman clone, but there’s no denying that his abilities and arsenal are very close to his. He’s an interesting character in his own right, and adding him to Marvel Rivals could boost his stock immensely. I mean, look at how Luna Snow and Jeff the Land Shark became extremely popular by being in the game.
4. Silver Surfer
I am biased with this pick, but at the same time, how could I not be? He’s a silver man who flies around in a silver surfboard. It would be such a miss if he didn’t eventually get added to Marvel Rivals. Silver Surfer might be the coolest character in all of the Marvel Universe. And out of everybody on this list, I think it’s most possible for him to be included in the game.
They already have flying characters such as Iron Man, Storm, and the Human Torch. They also have hybrid characters like Angela. Having a character fly around a surfboard isn’t a big stretch, in my opinion. And I didn’t even mention his cosmic powers. Galactus’s herald deserves to be in Marvel Rivals.
5. Quicksilver
I can see characters like Hyperion, Silver Surfer, and Gwenpool eventually being added to the game. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t, but it isn’t out of the realm of possibility. It’s pretty hard to see this character being added, though. Quicksilver could be hard to balance without it seeming like a huge nerf to the character. That’s because he’s Marvel’s resident speedster; there are others, of course, but he’s without a doubt the most notable.
Adding a super-fast character like Quicksilver could be difficult. You don’t want to make him overpowered and broken. You also don’t want to ruin the best quality of the character, either. All that being said, there is some precedence to having a fast character in a game like this.
Overwatch did it 10 years ago with the character Tracer. One of the key elements of the character is that she’s fast; Tracer can dash forward up to 3 times in a row. Now, if Quicksilver’s only speed ability is dashing a few times, that would be kind of lame. But the point I’m trying to make is that maybe him being added to the game isn’t as impossible as I first thought. Out of these 5 characters, Quicksilver is the one I most want to see in Marvel Rivals. Also, Silver Surfer, but I already told you I’m biased.
