Tesla has issued another recall for its Cybertruck due to a malfunction in the rearview camera. However, this recall provides insight into the number of Cybertrucks produced since November 2023, with the company revealing 27,185 affected vehicles.
Tesla Cybertruck is facing a new recall
This is just another minor software update fix, and Tesla is once again recalling the Cybertruck for this. What it does show is the total number of Cybertrucks produced by Tesla.
Tesla has been silent for almost a year about the exact number of Cybertrucks it has produced and shipped.
Tesla’s secret production revelations
When it comes to disclosing deliveries by model, no manufacturer is as secretive as Tesla, which has officially released its third quarter production and delivery data. It groups sales of Model 3 and Model Y, followed by all other Tesla cars, including the Model S, Model X, Cybertruck and Tesla Semi.
In the case of Cybertruck, a series of four recalls have allowed us to loosely track its delivery status.
Recall reveals Cybertruck numbers
Electrek reports that Tesla had delivered around 11,000 Cybertrucks at the latest by the end of June.
Due to an issue with the rearview camera, Tesla has issued a new recall for the Cybertruck:
“On certain affected vehicles, under certain conditions, the vehicle system (including the rear view image) may not complete the shutdown process before the system is commanded to power up. If the driver initiates a backup event before the vehicle system has completed the shutdown and upon start-up, the rearview image may not be displayed within two seconds after the vehicle is placed in reverse, as required by FMVSS 111, S6.2.3.”
An OTA software update is the solution.
Impact of the recall on Tesla production
Therefore, the “affected population” is the most intriguing aspect of the recall. All Cybertrucks produced until approximately mid-September appear to be affected:
“The sample population includes certain model year (MY) 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023 and September 14, 2024 that operate or previously operated with specific low-voltage hardware software logic.”
As for Tesla, 27,185 vehicles are affected.
By the end of June, Tesla had produced another 11,000 Cybertrucks. The Cybertruck is one of the 22,915 ‘other vehicles’ that Tesla said it delivered yesterday.
