The Government of Spain launches its Data Spaces Promotion Planan initiative aimed at positioning the country as a leader in the new data economy. During the presentation event, the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service, Óscar López, announced an increase of 300 million euros in the initial endowment, reaching a total investment of 500 million euros for the period 2024-2026.
The Plan aims to accelerate the creation of sector data spaces that will impact strategic sectors such as:
- Agrifood: Improvement of sustainability and optimization of resources.
- Sustainable mobility: Data integration for better urban planning.
- Health: Use of clinical data for early diagnosis and health optimization.
- Trade and tourism: Increase in competitiveness through innovative solutions.
Among the first projects, the clinical data sharing between hospitals for more effective diagnosis and the use of data in urban transportation to improve mobility. The Plan is structured in six lines of action including key advocates, technology companies and enablers, as well as public data initiatives and outreach campaigns. It will run through 11 concrete measuresmanaged in collaboration with entities such as Red.es, which will lead several of the actions.
Before the end of 2024, they will be launched two new calls worth more than 100 million euros, aimed at promoting use cases and developing products and services linked to these data spaces.
The project also aligns Spain with the strategy of the Single European Data Marketreinforcing national competitiveness in a global context. This approach, supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, positions Spain as a benchmark in digital transformation.
With this Plan, Spain is not only committed to innovation, but also to sustainable growth based on the power of data. The result? A more dynamic and competitive economy, which connects sectors and generates value for companies and citizens.
