G-Shock has become one of Casio’s most famous watch lines. Products bearing this label have evolved over the years to be more complete and resistant. But not all people want to wear the brand’s most modern watch. Some stick to classic models.
41 years after Casio launched the original G-Shock (DW-5000C), the Japanese company has decided to put on the market a watch that, except for imperceptible differences, is visually identical. We are talking about the G-Shock G-Shock DW-5000R, a proposal that is a tribute to that iconic model from April 1983.
Casio’s original G-Shock is back
When Casio came up with the G-Shock line in the 1980s, the company had a pretty clear idea of what it wanted: a durable watch. that would not break even if it were dropped. At that time watches were very delicate, something like the smartphones of our time. A fall could mean shattered glass.
There is no doubt that Casio fulfilled its mission by developing a watch with a stainless steel case accompanied by a synthetic bezel and strap. The model presented this week maintains its essence, but with slight changes: it now uses a biologically based resident and an LED backlight with improved brightness.
In the cover image we can see the original clock on the left and the updated one on the right. It seems that Casio has put a lot of effort into creating a product very similar to the original down to the smallest visual details. The design of the screen stands out with its “brick” style pattern to reproduce information.
In addition to telling time, the watch has a 1/100 second stopwatch function, countdown, alarm and LED backlight. The back has a metal cover with the legend “Shock Resistant”. The size of the case is 48.9 × 42.3 × 13.1 mm and it weighs only 76 grams. Its Price in Japan? 33,000 yen (about 206 euros).
