Saturday is synonymous with rest, tranquility, postponed plans… and Today No Circula. Because as you well know, on Saturdays there are special restrictions in the program designed by the CDMX Environment Secretariat (SEDEMA).
If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, the first thing you need to be clear about is that we are referring to the project that is applied to reduce polluting emissions and improve the quality of the air in the atmosphere and, therefore, the air we breathe.
This project is applied in the 16 municipalities in Mexico City and in the following suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico:
- Atizapan of Zaragoza
- Coacalco de Berriozábal
- Cuautitlan
- Cuautitlán Izcalli
- Chalco
- Chicoloapan
- Chimalhuacan
- Ecatepec de Morelos
- Huixquilucan
- Ixtapaluca
- Peace
- Naucalpan de Juárez
- Nezahualcoyotl
- Nicolas Romero
- Tecámac
- World of Baz
- Tultitlan
- Chalco Valley
What cars and license plates does Hoy No Circula Saturday affect?
But how come specific rules apply on Saturdays for Hoy No Circula? Yes, on Saturdays there are more restrictive rules for some cars and others and, in fact, they rotate, so the same cars do not always have to rest.
The restrictions are taken into account with the hologram of our car. In the image above there are all the details and it specifies which hologram stays at home each day. Of course, Saturdays have some specific restrictions because the following cases may occur:
- Those that can circulate every Saturday
- Those who have to rest every Saturday
- Those who rest every other Saturday
These restrictions apply between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.. Therefore, at night we can drive with complete peace of mind, since restrictive measures are not applied and, therefore, fines are not imposed.
What does all this mean? That cars with a 0 or 00 hologram do not have to worry about anything because they will be able to circulate every day they want at the time that best suits them.
On Saturdays, the ones you should not worry about are those with hologram 2. More than anything because these cars are prohibited from circulating as long as Hoy No Circula is active on Saturday. If you have hologram 2, you will not be able to circulate.
Finally, there are those of hologram 1. In this case, it is the license plate number that decides whether or not the car can circulate. This time, we have to look at the last license plate number. As we are facing the fifth Saturday of the month of September, it will be the odd numbered cars that will not be able to move. On even-numbered Saturdays, the cars with hologram 1 and a plate ending in an even number will rest.
To all of the above we must add one exception. The following cars may circulate every Saturday, regardless of their license plate number or hologram:
- Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrids
- Those who have a disabled license plate
- All those dedicated to urban transportation services (includes funeral homes)
- Those that offer school or passenger transportation
- Those intended for public safety and/or civil protection
If you fail to comply with these restrictions, the fine will be 20 to 30 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (ONE), which is equivalent to 1,924.40 pesos and even 2,886.60 pesos.
