An electric van designed for adventure and escapades in the great outdoors, it’s not on the streets… yet. With its PV5 WKNDR, Kia wants to show what a vehicle can offer when you give free rein to the imagination. Presented first at the SEMA Show, then at the Los Angeles Auto Show, this concept is part of the Korean manufacturer’s new “Platform Beyond Vehicle” range.
The van that does it all
This modular platform has been designed to meet several needs: utility vehicle, camper van or even mobile energy station. The PV5 WKNDR is aimed at outdoor enthusiasts. His mission? Become a escape pod for long weekends ”, according to Kia. And for this, the van has no shortage of advantages.

Its all-terrain wheels and tow hooks are calibrated to explore the roughest trails. But what sets it apart is its completely transformable interior: folding armchairs, retractable tables, benches hidden in the walls, and even an extendable platform for cooking or storing a refrigerator. The roof houses a retractable tent for sleeping under the stars.
The manufacturer has multiplied ingenious ideas. In addition to the solar panels on its roof, it is equipped with “hydro turbine” wheels. These are far from being simple gadgets, they can produce electricity using the wind when they are stationary. Enough to recharge the battery and power the camp during nature breaks.
This concept also highlights another advantage of electric vehicles: their ability to provide energy on site. In other words, it is possible to use the van’s battery to power appliances, lighting or even an entire small camp. Kia here pushes the idea of a vehicle that accompanies all adventures, and which does so silently and without emissions.
But, as is often the case with concepts, we must remain cautious. The PV5 WKNDR has no guarantee of seeing the light of day as is. However, Kia is already planning to launch a more conventional version of the PBV platform, the PV5, next year in South Korea, with a potential arrival elsewhere in the world in 2026.
With the PV5 WKNDR, Kia makes no secret of its ambition to appeal to road trip and nature lovers. The concept combines modularity, autonomy and original design. It has everything to please those who dream of long weekends off the beaten track! While waiting for a hypothetical materialization on the roads, this van gives some interesting ideas – and travel desires.
