FreeBSD 15.0 Beta 4 Released With Newer Linux WiFi Drivers & Updated OpenZFS

The fourth and final beta of FreeBSD 15 is out today for testing with the official release continuing to align for an early December debut.

The FreeBSD 15 development cycle has brought success around reproducible builds, better hardware support especially among laptops and WiFi devices and more, various desktop experience enhancements, and a ton of other updates both for kernel and user-space. With FreeBSD 15.0 Beta 4 there are yet more WiFi driver updates. This new release has pulled in the Intel IWLWIFI, Realtek RTW88, and Realtek RTW89 drivers updated based on their upstream Linux 6.17 kernel status with te associated LinuxKPI porting helpers.

FreeBSD 15.0 Beta 4 also updates the ZFS file-system support against OpenZFS 2.4-rc3 as the newest there.

A summary of changes since BETA3 includes:

* socktat(1) and netstat(1) now support UDP-Lite.

* iwlwifi, rtw88, rtw89, and LinuxKPI updated to be based on Linux 6.17 drivers

* OpenZFS 2.4.0 rc3.

* Unbound 1.24.1.

* Several pkgbase-related adjustments.

Up next is FreeBSD 15.0-RC1 for next weekend. The weekly release candidates will continue until FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE is ready around the start of December.
