The survey, carried out among 2,000 French people aged 18 and over, shows that donating money at Christmas is widely accepted and appreciated. In fact, 90% of respondents have already given or received money as a Christmas gift, and 84% view this practice positively. The reasons given are mainly utility and practicality, allowing the recipient to freely choose their gift.
Cryptocurrencies under the tree?
But the study goes further by exploring the attitude of the French towards a more innovative gift: cryptocurrencies. Although still marginal, they are arousing growing interest, particularly among 18-24 year olds. Thus, 41% of French people would welcome receiving cryptos at Christmas, a figure which rises to 57% among Generation Z!
However, enthusiasm for offering cryptocurrencies remains moderate: only 22% of respondents plan to do so. Men seem more inclined to this idea (27%) than women (17%). Among those who would be ready to offer cryptos, the preferred areas of investment are green energies (27%), the video game world (24%) and health (22%).
The study also reveals the preferences of the French in terms of the types of cryptocurrencies they would like to receive. The main criteria are real-world usefulness (29%), stability and low volatility (20%), and diversification to spread risk (20%). These choices reflect a cautious and pragmatic approach to investing in cryptocurrencies.
As for the future of this practice, opinions are divided. If 22% of French people think that cryptocurrencies could become a common gift in the years to come, 44% believe that they will remain a niche reserved for insiders. Here again, young people are more optimistic, with 34% of 18-24 year olds believing in the democratization of cryptos as gifts.
This study highlights an emerging trend that may well redefine our gift-giving habits in the future. Between tradition and innovation, the French seem open to new forms of gifts, reflecting the technological and financial developments of our time. It remains to be seen whether cryptocurrencies will succeed in establishing themselves as the Christmas present of the future or whether they will remain confined to an audience of insiders.
