The objective is to facilitate traffic in a region made up of more than 90 % mountains and cliffs, not very conducive to traditional transport axes. An extraordinary work for a region that is difficult to access
Launched in early 2022, the bridge site approaches its end: 95 % of the work was completed in April 2025. The opening is scheduled for the end of the year. The bridge extends over 2,890 meters, with a main span of 1,420 meters, and is based on a 22,000 -ton steel frame. It is three times the weight of the Eiffel Tower. In total, 93 segments were necessary for its construction, with cranes guided by GPS and wind sensors essential for this altitude.

This project has not only a tourist vocation. According to the Guizhou transport department, the bridge ” will strengthen economic ties between the cities of Guiyang, Ashun and Qianxinan », By facilitating exchanges in this landlocked region.
Behind the spectacular feat, a much more earth-to-earth ambition: it is a question of opening up the isolated villages of Guizhou. In this region where the roads are often winding and not very practicable, especially in the rainy season, the construction of the express motorway and its dizzying bridges should facilitate access to care, education and employment for thousands of inhabitants.
The project cost 265 million euros and completed the catalog of Guizhou records, which has almost half of the 100 highest bridges in the world! The Beipanjiang Bridge, located 200 km further north, hitherto held the record with its 545 meters high.
The structure is already promised in good future as a tourist attraction. Glass bridges, extreme sports activities and even astronomy are envisaged on its towers, for the most reckless. The Huajiang canyon bridge could thus become the jewel of an impressive collection of bridges at altitude. It is also the symbol of human will in the face of a recalcitrant geography.
