The suicidal cases in India are rising at an alarming rate. A last year report titled “Student Suicides: An Epidemic Sweeping India” has revealed that the student suicides have outpaced the population growth and even the overall suicide trends. AIIMS Never Alone Mental-Health Program
The AIIMS-Delhi’s Never Alone offers 24/7 virtual as well as offline consultation. The mental health experts will be accessible via a web-based app on WhatsApp. The important part of the initiative is that the app provides personalised and secure mental health screening at an affordable price. It costs 70 paise per student per day for institutions with 5 thousand students. That means the service is available for institutions, and they will have to approach AIIMS-Delhi or other institutions to subscribe to the service.
“The program aims to minimise stigma surrounding suicide and increase awareness among students,” Dr. Nand Kumar, Professor of Psychiatry at AIIMS Delhi. Apart from the AIIMS-Delhi, the AIIMS-Bhubaneswar and the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) in Shahdara have also launched the same programme for mental health.
