Earlier today the AlmaLinux project announced their plans for supporting the Btrfs file-system contrary to the stance by Red Hat with upstream Red Hat Enterprise Linux. They have capped off the day now by releasing the AlmaLinux 10.1 beta complete with this new Btrfs support.
AlmaLinux 10.1 Beta is now available across x86_64, x86_64_v2, AArch64, PPC64LE, and IBM s390x platforms. This beta release incorporates changes from upstream Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 while also new additions like AlmaLinux’s Btrfs root file-system support.
AlmaLinux 10.1 Beta does bring some compiler upgrades such as GCC 14.3.1 while offering an option for GCC 15, LLVM 20.1.8, Rust 1.88 and other notable updates like the Mesa 25.0.7 graphics drivers, Node.js 24, and Python 3.12.11.
