AMAZON is dishing out AI smart-glasses to drivers – letting them see directions and delivery instructions without touching a phone.
The hi-tech Amazon specs feature tiny display technology that gives drivers sci-fi computer vision.
They’re officially called the Amazon Delivery Glasses and were unveiled at a special event at an Amazon distribution centre in California today.
Amazon says that the glasses will help drivers “identify hazards, seamlessly navigate to customer’s doorsteps, and improve customer deliveries”.
The glasses – which look a little like rival Meta’s specs – can be used to scan packages, and will even serve up turn-by-turn walking directions.
And they’ll also capture proof of delivery without the driver having to touch their phone.

They have a small controller that the driver wears in their delivery vest.
That has the operational controls for the headset.
And they also have a swappable battery system so that they can be worn “all day”, Amazon says.
There’s even a dedicated emergency button, if the driver needs it.
The tech giant added that the glasses also support prescription lenses, as well as regular lenses that adjust to the light.
They use a combination of AI and cameras to give the drivers a heads-up display – almost like in a video game.
It’ll include info on navigation details and hazards.
“When drivers safely park at a delivery location, the glasses automatically activate,” Amazon explained.
“And the Delivery Associate is given their delivery information right in their field of view.
“Starting with location the right packages inside their vehicles to the corresponding homes.”
At that point, the display will give the driver turn-by-turn walking navigation to the delivery address.
Amazon says this uses the company’s “geospatial technology” to guide drivers to the exact drop-off point without relying on a phone.
“If there are hazards, or a need to navigate complex environments like apartment buildings, the glasses will guide Delivery Associates safely to their destination,” Amazon added.
Amazon said that it’s already been testing the smart specs with hundreds of drivers.
They gave tips on how the glasses should fit, as well as on the clarity of the display.
This allowed Amazon to improve its prototypes and create the final product.
“I felt safer the whole time because the glasses have the info right in my field of view,” said Kaleb, a driver from Nebraska who tested the tech.
“Instead of having to look down at a phone, you can keep your eyes forward and look past the display.
“You’re always focused on what’s ahead.”

That’s not the only AI goodness coming out of Amazon HQ today.
Amazon also unveiled an AI automation system that acts as a puppet master for multiple robotic arms.
It’s called Blue Jay, and it controls several arms at once.
It’ll allow them to “pick, sort, and consolidate items” at a single station.
So it means that three separate assembly lines can be consolidated into one.
And Amazon also showed off Project Luna, which is an AI agent that acts as a digital helper for its teams.
It’ll help operations staff to make decisions, like suggesting shifting employees to prevent bottlenecks.

And it can even guide staff to reroute inventory during maintenance.
Amazon said this will make the lives of frontline staff easier and less repetitive – and will make its entire systems more efficient.
