AMERICANS have the chance to grab payments of up to $5,100 in a data breach settlement.
The size of the payout depends on where you live, however, with residents of one state entitled to more than the rest.
Nonstop Administration and Insurance services has agreed to pay a huge $1.6million to resolve claims it failed to prevent a data breach in 2022.
It is alleged that the leak compromised sensitive employee information.
Anyone who had their information exposed as a result of the breach will be able to claim.
There is also a subgroup of people able who lived in California at the time of the breach and are able to claim even more money.
Nonstop Administration and Insurance Services provides insurance and administrative services for self-funded health plans.
According to the settlement, the company failed to take measures to prevent the breach.
This allegedly resulted in information such as names, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and health insurance information falling into the wrong hands.
Nonstop Administration and Insurance Services hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing, but decided instead to settle with the financial payment.
Under the terms, class members can be reimbursed for losses they suffered as a result of their information being leaked.
The most severe cases – for example of fraud, identity theft, bank fees and credit monitoring costs – could warrant payments of up to $5,000.
Claimants will have to submit evidence of these losses such as account statements, invoices and credit reports.
Class members may instead choose to receive an alternative cash payment of around $50, which will be adjusted depending on how much of the settlement pot remains.
Members of the California subgroup can also receive payments of $100 if they lived in the state between December 22, 2022 and February 12, 2025.
To cash in on the settlement, claimants must submit a valid form by February 12, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for March 18, 2025
