Asus is known for their Vivobook series, which is known to give a bang for its buck. It brings great performance at a price point that doesn’t hurt your wallet. The Asus Vivobook 14 Flip does the same by bringing features that are mostly found in much more expensive laptops. It runs on the Windows 11 operating system and is also a Copilot+ certified PC with a dedicated AI chip. It also has some dedicated Asus apps like the MyASUS app, which is a great tool to monitor the performance of your laptop, run diagnostics, update drivers, and much more.
This laptop is an interesting offering as it brings a good level of productivity, a beautiful display, and has enough power for all the multitasking needs. But the main question is: Can it really flip the script or just be a part of the herd? Let’s take a deep dive into the Asus Vivobook 14 Flip and find out in this review.
The Asus Vivobook 14 Flip is a well-built and sturdy laptop. It has a premium build and feel, with the overall chassis made of metal. It is slim as well, coming in at just 16.9mm in thickness and weighing around 1.5kg. In real life, though, due to its high-quality MIL-STD 810H certification, it might feel a little heavy. This makes the portability of this laptop a little tough but, this also makes the device much more durable and provides assurance against accidental drops. So, this might be a small caveat but, as it adds an extra layer of protection, this might be good for those who are worried about their laptop’s durability.
Talking about the design of the Asus Vivobook 14 Flip, it is really minimal and has a matte finish with the Asus Vivobook logo. The lid is also sturdy and passes the one-hand laptop opening test. The keyboard has a little bit of flex, but that’s not a big concern. The laptop features an Asus ErgoSense keyboard along with a large touchpad which gives a great experience. Now, coming to the main USP of the device: the 360 flip. The laptop also comes with a 360-degree hinge, and during my testing, the hinge felt really sturdy and held itself at any point, giving users the flexibility to use it however they feel like in four different modes: Laptop mode, Stand mode, Tent mode, and Tablet mode.
Mostly, I used it in laptop mode and observed a minor flaw. While picking up the laptop from my desk, the screen wobbles a little, but it isn’t a major issue.
Moving on to the beautiful display, the Asus Vivobook 14 Flip features a nice screen in a compact form factor. The device comes with Asus’ Luminous OLED panel, which delivers great, punchy visuals and beautiful, vivid colors. The text while typing is really crisp, and the overall display makes watching videos and movies a thrilling experience. I watched some movies and HDR YouTube videos, and the 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, along with the DisplayHDR 500 True Black and TÜV Rheinland certification, didn’t disappoint. The blacks and the colour tones are so natural, with just the right punch that it adds to the cinematic feel of the movies.
The main worry about OLED displays is that they can lead to pixel burn-in, causing the display to degrade over time. Asus addresses this with a Pixel Refresh feature in the MyASUS app, which refreshes the pixels on the display every 30 minutes and helps prevent any type of pixel burn.
The brightness is great as well with up to 500 nits of peak brightness, which is good enough for indoor use. The only minor issue I found is that the display is reflective, so it might become a little difficult if there’s a light source directly behind you. The display comes with a 60Hz refresh rate, which could have been a bit higher considering the premium price point and would have added to the overall smoothness of the display.
The typing experience on the 14 Flip is so great that I typed the first draft of this review on the 14 Flip itself. The laptop has good key travel, and the spacing between the keys is also well done, making the keyboard typing experience great. The keyboard is also backlit and offers three levels of backlighting that you can customise according to your needs. Now, talking about the touchpad slab, it is large enough to support all the smart gestures. While scrolling through different menus, the touchpad feels smooth, and every press gives a satisfying feel when you click it.
On the audio side, the speakers are loud enough but lack that punch. One of the reasons is that they are bottom-firing, so if you’re typing while relaxing on your bed, you might hear muffled audio. The audio can be customised in the MyASUS app, and I found the Dynamic option to be great, as the Dolby Audio kicks in and makes the sound feel a tad bit richer. There’s also a Volume Booster option in the MyASUS app, which adds a little extra loudness. In my personal experience, it sometimes led to slight distortion, so I would personally prefer keeping this setting turned off for the best audio experience.
On the connectivity front, the Asus Vivobook 14 Flip offers a decent selection of ports. There’s a USB Type-A port on the right side, while the left side houses an HDMI 2.1 port, a Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Considering its sleek design, the laptop still manages to pack in almost all the essential ports needed for everyday use.
In terms of performance, the Asus Vivobook 14 Flip glides smoothly with the help of the new Intel Core Ultra 5 (Series 2) processor. The Ultra 5 226V is a great processor that makes day-to-day use a treat. I personally browsed using 13-14 tabs along with videos and music running the whole time, and still found no lags or jitters. Just for some fun, I even tried sketching on the laptop using tablet mode, and it worked pretty well in that too. One interesting observation was that during tablet mode, mis clicks from the physical keyboard weren’t registered.
Talking about the integrated Intel Arc Graphics 130V, it’s powerful enough to handle light gaming and performed well with productivity apps. The internal 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD also delivers impressive speeds, with around 6345.60 MB/s for read and 4246.06 MB/s for write, ensuring fast boot times and smooth file handling.
Now, coming to some benchmarks in Geekbench, the laptop scored 2602 in the Single-Core test and 10080 in the Multi-Core test. In Cinebench 2024, it achieved a Multi-Core score of 460 points and a Single-Core score of 83. Meanwhile, in Cinebench R23, I recorded a CPU Multi-Core score of 7257 and a Single-Core score of 1773. All of these benchmarks were run in full performance mode with the battery plugged in to ensure the processor delivered its maximum potential.
But what about the actual performance? As I mentioned earlier, the day to day performance for office tasks and multitasking is great. But, I had to try some productivity apps to test the real-life experience of this laptop. I tried some light Photoshop and a bit of video editing. The experience was great and the best part was that the laptop didn’t overheat even while using these heavy and demanding apps.
I even tried some gaming on this and played a few battle royale titles like Valorant and GTA V. I was easily able to get around 180-200 FPS in Valorant on mid settings, and around 100-120 FPS in GTA V. Overall, the temperatures stayed under control and the laptop gave stable performance without any major throttling issues.
Additionally, it comes with an IR-based camera for Windows Hello support, which works perfectly for quick and secure logins. The Full HD camera is decent for video calls, and the dual microphones do a good job of capturing clear audio.
The Asus Vivobook 14 Flip gets a battery capacity of 70Wh Lithium-Polymer and comes with a 65W USB Type-C fast charger. On regular usage with music playing, 4K video streaming, and around 13 to 14 tabs open for browsing, I was able to get around 7 to 8 hours of battery life, which is quite impressive. The best part is that the 65W fast charger powers up the battery quickly and can fully charge the laptop in under two hours, so battery life shouldn’t be a concern.
Overall, for a price tag of Rs 93,990 the Asus Vivobook 14 Flip is a great 2-in-1 option for customers. The laptop feels premium, provides a great typing experience, and is powerful enough for all day-to-day tasks. The only caveat was the bottom-firing speakers, which could have very well been top-firing to improve the audio experience. So, if you’re someone looking for a laptop with 2-in-1 functionality and a vibrant colour accurate display, this could very well be a solid pick for you under Rs 1 lakh.
