(Bloomberg) – Apple Inc. Prepare one of the most dramatic software revision in the history of the company, with the aim of transforming the interface of the iPhone, iPad and Mac for a new generation of users.

The makeover – later this year – will fundamentally change the appearance of the operating systems and make the various software platforms from Apple more consistent, according to people who are familiar with the effort. This includes updating the style of pictograms, menus, apps, windows and system buttons.
As part of the Push, the company works to simplify and control the way users navigate their devices, said that the people who asked not to be identified because the project was not announced. The design is loosely based on the software of the Vision Pro, they said.
Apple gambles that a breakthrough can help new interface to stimulate the question after a slow piece. After an increase in the pandemic era of the expenditure on technology and growth, the income only gradually returns. The iPhone from Apple – the biggest money maker – received a surprise dip in the sale during the most recent holiday season.
The changes come as part of iOS 19 and iPados 19-code-fed “Luck” and MacOS 16, which is called “Cheer”. They go much further than a new design language and aesthetic tweaks. The software marks the most important upgrade to the Mac since the Big Sur control system in 2020. For the iPhone this is the biggest renewal since iOS 7 in 2013.
A spokesperson for Apple refused to comment.
The updates are ready to be a peak at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June – and can help distract from the tumultuous push of the company in artificial intelligence. Last week, Apple delayed an indefinite period of time for the Siri Digital Assistant, which confirmed a Bloomberg news report that the improvements were in danger.
An important goal of the overhaul is to make the different operating systems of Apple look comparable and consistent. At present, the applications, icons and window styles vary between macOS, iOS and Visionos. That can make it shocking to jump from one device to the other.
Nevertheless, Apple stops deficiency when merging its operating systems – a step that other technical giants have taken. The company believes that it can make better Macs and iPads by keeping their control systems separate. Another advantage for Apple is that it encourages consumers to buy both devices, instead of coming with it.
The Visionos of Apple has since been developed for the headset of mixed reality-a device that combines virtual and augmented reality. That product has not sold well since the debut last year, but the software has innovative touches that will eventually spread to other devices.
Visionos differs from iOS and macOS when using circular app icons, a simplified approach to windows, translucent panels for navigation and a more prominent use of 3D depth and shadows. But the more compelling experience of the Vision pro-and the use of a hand-born interface means that some elements do not apply to the 2D world of iOS and MacOS.
The upgrade has become an important focus for Apple’s software engineering organization, as well as the user interface team within the larger design group of the company.
Software design is checked by Alan Dye, an old Apple director who previously had Stints at fashion brands. More than ten years ago he was tapped by design chef Jony Ive to help make the operating system of the Apple Watch, as well as iOS 7.
With the departure of IVE in 2019, Dye was won in the foreground at Apple. He now supervises more than 300 people – a group that determines what software looks and works and even the sound it makes. DYE reports to Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams and works together with Molly Anderson, the manager who is responsible for industrial and hardware design.
The departure of IVE, a legendary design guru, is still felt at the company. Many designers have followed him out the door in recent years, including some who joined his company, LoveFrom. The design department has also suffered from moral problems, where some employees complain about harsh management and a seemingly less creative culture.
Making simple, intuitive interfaces has been a characteristic of Apple – dating from the Mac for more than four decades. But design innovations can also create a split report.
The company now has more than 2 billion devices in use around the world, and people trust them to work, communicate and play. Even when Apple was renewed his photos -app last year, Legions or Users complained. With the full operating systems that change, the bet is much higher.
