Apple TV has postponed its thriller series The Hunt just days before its release, after a French media expert, Clement Garin, claimed it plagiarizes the 1973 novel Shoot.
As reported by Apple Insider, both the novel and the French show follow the same narrative. A group of friends go hunting in the wilderness and have an altercation with a rival group. One member of the rival group gets shot down, and the original group finds a way to escape before deciding to keep the incident a secret.
According to the report, both Apple and the production company, Gaumont, found out about the similarities at the very last moment. Both companies have removed traces of the show, including press notes and YouTube trailers, to reportedly reduce their legal exposure to a potential lawsuit.
The show has been postponed indefinitely, and both Apple and Gaumont are reportedly planning to sue the maker, Cedric Anger, for deceit.
“The broadcast of our series The Hunt has been temporarily postponed,” Gaumont tells Variety. “We are currently conducting a thorough review to address any questions related to our production. We take intellectual property matters very seriously.”

The French show was originally scheduled to premiere on Dec. 3 with two episodes, followed by one episode each Wednesday. Though Apple has yet to officially comment on the matter, it has removed the show from its lineup.
This is the second time in recent months that Apple TV pulled a show soon before release. The Savant was scheduled to release on Sept. 26, but was postponed just days before launch for unconfirmed reasons. Charlie Kirk was killed on Sept. 10, and some speculate the show’s imagery and storyline would have been considered triggering in the aftermath of the event.
