There are rumors – legitimate ones – that Apple will launch a new AI-powered wall tablet that will serve as a tablet central control center for its smart home appliances. The device is expected to be announced in early 2025.
Everything we know about Apple’s AI Wall tablet
The tech giant has yet to decide on a name for the device. For now it is codenamed J490. Apparently that was the case in development for the past 3 years.
Since Apple hasn’t officially commented on it yet, most of the details are still under wraps – and many of the expectations are guesses.
However, according to some sources it will be a square 6-inch screen and will be available in two colors: silver and black.
It will also feature a camera, internal speakers and a rechargeable battery – and will run on an entirely new operating system codenamed Pebble.
Speaking of the features, in addition to controlling other Apple home devices, the tablet will have that as well video conferencing functionalities and allow you to use AI to navigate apps.
In all likelihood it will work as a standalone device. However, some tasks may require you to use your iPhone. The rest of the features are the same as on a regular iPad:
- You have Siri to answer all your questions
- Apps for music, news updates and web browsing
- A calendar and notes app
- The photos you take with the camera can be displayed in a slideshow
- There will also be security features that send alerts, camera footage and intercom access
- Finally, we hear that the home screen will be fully customizable
We also have some information about the price. There can be two versions of this device. The more expensive variant can cost up to $1,000 depending on the price of the part used. For example, Apple could also add robotic limbs for better screen movements.
The second variant could just as easily be a display-only device, and is therefore expected to be much cheaper than the above. We couldn’t find much on the price of this, but it’s expected to be close to the price of Amazon’s Echo Show 8 ($150) and Google’s Nest Hub Max ($230).
It’s good to see that Apple is working to keep its new product affordable. After all, the company has learned a stern lesson from users with the Vision Pro, which the company will reportedly stop producing at the end of 2024 due to low demand.
