With its second season, Arcane is only allowed nine episodes to conclude its complex storyline. The frantic pace of the first two parts therefore did not fail to take the spectators by surprise. If the first three episodes called on our memory to identify the many secondary characters, last week’s chapters simply sowed discord.
This chaos is not trivial since it reinforces the wild and unpredictable character of Hextech magic and the Arcane. In the absence of explanations which will most certainly arrive in the final part, it is not easy to understand the ins and outs of Viktor’s narrative arc. At first glance, the structure of the episodes seems rushed: but with Arcaneit’s all in the details. To prepare you for the final episodes of this week, here is everything that is hidden between the lines of chapters 4, 5 and 6.
Viktor, blinded by his utopia
On the surface, Viktor is a messiah capable of saving the lost souls of Zaun. But in fact, the reality seems quite different. In addition to Jayce’s strange visions representing Viktor’s followers as frightening creatures, a discreet detail reveals the true nature of these rescued “humans”.
In the Hextech heart room – where Jayce, Heimerdinger and Ekko disappeared – the characters’ breathing produces mist, probably due to low temperature. But when Jayce reappears in this room opposite Salo, we notice that Viktor’s disciple is not subject to the same phenomenon.
This leads us to believe that the rescued humans are nothing more than empty shells, killed then reanimated by the power of the Arcane, unable to live without Viktor. This would also explain the massacre at the end of episode 6. This “evolution” appears more inhuman than saving and Jayce seems to have witnessed its consequences.
Jayce, traumatized by the Arcane
Jayce’s condition raised many questions. Returning to Piltover after disappearing into the Hextech core, Viktor’s friend appears changed. Aside from the corruption of his hammer and a physical appearance that speaks to his time spent in this dimension, his behavior is all the more revealing. The young man repeats that he “can’t fail” and does not hesitate for a single second to kill his long-time partner. Did Jayce have to face this scenario multiple times before he succeeded?
Many details point in this direction. Just before his shot, the hammer wielder is pulled and multiplies. For a moment, it is possible to distinguish four additional silhouettes. These represent perhaps four failed attemptswhere Jayce was unable to finish off his friend and had no choice but to witness the horrors of his “evolution”.
This would therefore explain his determination and the terrible visions from which he cannot shake off. Note also that the introductory scene of episode 4 and the final scene of episode 6 are almost identical, apart from a few details. Did Jayce complete his mission? Do Ekko and Heimerdinger have something to do with it? The two characters remain untraceable, and the players of League of Legends know that Ekko ends up holding temporal powers. Vi and Jinx’s childhood friend will certainly play a major role in the conclusion of the series.
Isha, what happens to Jinx’s adopted daughter?
The final moments of episode 6 broke viewers’ hearts. The young Isha taken in by Jinx ends up sacrificing herself to alleviate the suffering of Vander, transformed by Singed. But something is wrong with this scene. At the moment of the shot, time seems to freeze, as if the world had ended. Is this linked to the use of the two Hextech balls or to Viktor’s death?
The teaser for the last three episodes suggests yet another flashback which will lead to a final battle. It is therefore not impossible that the characters benefit from a second chance, including young Isha. In the lore of League of Legendsmagic is more often a source of destruction than of salvation. Empires have fallen, worlds have been razed… Will we face the threat of nothingness in the final episodes? Heimerdinger’s reluctance towards magic in the first season already foreshadowed this lead.
In Arcane season 2, when Jayce kills Salo, the eyes of Viktor’s disciple take on a purple tint, reminiscent of those of the void creatures in the MOBA. By thinking of saving humanity, did the inventor open a door to this dangerous dimension? See you Saturday morning for the final verdict.
