The National Summit on Artificial Intelligence and Culture will explore the opportunities AI presents for Canada’s cultural and creative industries and its impact.
GATINEAU, JANUARY 14, 2026 – Artificial Intelligence (AI) is having a transformative impact on Canada’s cultural and creative sectors, presenting challenges to business models and job security, as well as new opportunities to drive innovation. As a global leader in AI, Canada is committed to facilitating conversations on these issues and taking steps to strengthen Canada’s cultural sector so it can take full advantage of the opportunities AI presents. In support of this, the Banff Center for Arts and Creativity and the Government of Canada will co-host the National Summit on Artificial Intelligence and Culture in Banff, Alberta on March 16 and 17, 2026.
This summit will bring together leaders from cultural, government, technology, academia and civil society to:
- Explore the interactions between AI and culture and their policy implications;
- Connect the cultural sector and Canada’s artificial intelligence research and business ecosystem;
- Demonstrate opportunities for the cultural sector to adopt responsible Canadian AI solutions; And
- Discover the AI talent, skills and training needs for the cultural sector.
The Government of Canada remains committed to fostering a vibrant and sovereign cultural sector, supported by federal AI policies that promote innovation and protect Canadian creativity and identity.
