The conference, organized by White Hat Desert in collaboration with Msheireb Properties and Qatar Scientific Club, is the largest of its kind in Qatar.
The rapid rise of artificial intelligence has increased the complexity of potential cyber threats, in addition to their benefits, experts said Thursday at the fifth annual White Hat Desert Cybersecurity Conference in Doha’s Msheireb.
Organized to combine industry expertise with public engagement, the event featured leading local experts and cybersecurity professionals from across the region to discuss modern trends and ways to mitigate potential threats.
To bridge the gap between the general public and industry-oriented discourse, a cybersecurity village, live hacking competitions, technology demonstrations, gaming competitions, drone races, robotics displays and virtual reality experiences were set up at the site.
Most discussions focused on the challenges and trends related to AI.
Ed Sleiman, Microsoft’s regional chief security adviser, told Doha News that the AI boom has raised questions for the cybersecurity sector on both sides.
“AI can very easily detect and understand what we do and even predict our movements. That is why AI is used, among other things, to find out what hackers are doing and to predict an attack before it happens,” Sleiman explains.
“But the problem with that is also that hackers use AI,” he added, referring to the threats.
Panel discussions at the conference revolved around the modern and emerging trends in digital defense, cloud security and awareness of modern threats created by rapid technological evolution.
“This conference is a platform to share the latest trends in cybersecurity to counter and counter any cyber threats that may arise,” Carlos Rebollo, cyber strategy leader at Malomatia, told Doha News.
Malomatia claims to be the largest provider of technology services and solutions in the country.
“We follow the same principles as Qatar National Vision 2030 and we support all work streams to make Qatar more resilient and secure,” Rebollo added.
