A set of eleven patches being worked on for the ASUS HID and platform drivers work to enhance the support for the AMD Strix Halo powered ROG Flow Z13 (2025) laptop as well as adding RGB control support for the ROG Ally gaming handheld.
As part of this set of 11 patches by open-source developer Antheas Kapenekakis, with the 2025 model of the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 laptop there is a quirk for supporting its fan key, enabling multi-touch support for its touchscreen, and enabling RGB controls.
The ASUS Z13 2025 model is a very interesting laptop given that it’s the launch model for the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ “Strix Halo”. Given these mostly superficial improvements to the ASUS Z13 Linux support, it sounds like all of the core support for this ASUS Strix Halo laptop on Linux is in good shape. The ASUS Z13 retails for $2k+ USD so hopefully we end up seeing the Ryzen AI Max+ SoCs in more/different laptops soon, especially for those that may be after this powerful laptop SoC not within an RGB-bearing laptop.
In addition to the RGB control support for the ASUS Z13, the hid-asus driver patches also enable basic RGB support for the ASUS ROG Ally handheld gaming device.
