The French technology company Atos has confirmed that has reached an agreement to sell all its operations in Latin America to a Brazilian technology company, Semantix. The agreement is part of a large-scale restructuring plan launched by the company, with which it hopes to definitively emerge from the crisis that caused it serious problems in 2024. Since then, thanks to this strategy, focused on the sale of assets, it has managed to reduce its debt by 2.1 billion euros.
This plan, known internally in the company as Genesis, aims to get Atos back on a path of sustainable growth and improved profitability, changing the company’s focus to focus on its most important geographic divisions, as well as on different assets and types of business. These include AI and secure cloud-powered services and solutions.
According to the terms of the agreement, which for the most part have not been disclosed, the divisions that Atos is going to divest from are those dedicated to its businesses in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Uruguay. Currently, they all have a workforce of around 2,800 employees. Founded in Brazil in 2010, Semantix will achieve a notable expansion of its service portfolio with the purchase.
If Atos’ sales plans for these divisions go according to plan, their sale will close in the coming months, in 2026. This transaction will make Semantix one of the leading enterprise data and AI services companies.
When the acquisition is completed, Nelson Campelowho is currently the head of Atos in South America, will be named CEO of Semantix. Leonardo Santos Poça D’água, Founder of Semantix and current CEO, will become Executive President of the Group, to focus on the company’s long-term innovation strategy.
For Nelson Campelo, the operation signals the beginning of a new growth cycle, since “Over the last few years, Atos has developed a solid operation that is well recognized in the region, with complex and innovative projects. By joining forces with Semantix, a leader in data and AI, we are entering a new phase of expansion, with enhanced features to create even more value for customers, partners, employees and society.«.
Leonardo Santos Poça D`água, for his part, has commented that «This agreement represents a historic milestone for the technology market. We are a 100% Brazilian company that assumes a leading regional role. With Atos’ broad geographic presence and strong operational core, we are accelerating our ability to deliver AI with full governance to regulated sectors such as financial services, healthcare, utilities and telecommunications. In addition, we will immediately strengthen our presence in strategic areas, such as the agricultural sector, industry, government and automotive. Our commitment and purpose are to use technology to generate a real positive impact on millions of lives.«.
