The trash radar is above all a question of discretion. Installed at the edge of the roadway, camouflaged in the middle of urban furniture, it measures the speed of motorists without they being easily identified. The technology used, often based on doppler lasers or radars, makes it possible to clearly identify vehicles in offense, sometimes even in both directions of traffic.
If these radars are not yet officially deployed on French territory, they already arouse many questions. In Belgium, their regular use, especially near schools, pedestrian crossings or in the heart of agglomerations, shows convincing results on the decline in gear and dangerous behaviors.
Why consider their deployment in France?
The objective displayed by the authorities remains clear: strengthening road safety and combating speeding that causes many serious or fatal accidents each year. The “trash radars” could thus be perfectly written in this prevention logic, by surprising motorists where they expect the least.
According to some sources close to the Ministry of the Interior, several experiments have been envisaged, in particular in sensitive accident or urban areas. However, no official confirmation has yet been brought to date.
The fines incurred
If these radars appear in France, the sanctions would be identical to those of other automatic radars. As a reminder, speeding can cost from 68 to 135 euros for moderate overruns, up to 1500 euros for more serious excesses (greater than 50 km/h beyond the authorized speed), as well as a withdrawal from 1 to 6 points on the driving license.
A controversial device
However, the potential arrival of these radars in France is far from unanimous. Some motorists already denounce a blatant lack of transparency, believing that the surprise effect aims more to replenish the state funds than to really secure the roads. Conversely, road safety associations highlight the interest of an innovative system, capable of better empowering imprudent drivers.
For the time being, nothing is officially confirmed as to their large -scale deployment. However, the rumor is already actively circulating on social networks, fueling debates on control methods and their real impacts on the behavior of French motorists. Until these trash radars actually invest the French road landscape, caution remains more than ever on the roads, even in front of a simple trash can.
