A glitch on three widely-used banking apps briefly gave customers access to the transactions of other users.
People using the Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland apps were able to see payments and deposits in accounts that weren’t their own.
BBC News reported that one woman was even able to view some National Insurance numbers over a 20-minute period this morning.
Lloyds Banking Group, which runs all three firms, said an investigation has now been launched into the issue.
Online outage tracker DownDetector.com has recorded a sharp spike in reports of issues by users of Lloyds between 10am and 11am, following a smaller increase between 7am and 9am.
Similar jumps were recorded for both Halifax and the Bank of Scotland.
The anonymous woman told BBC News she could see transactions from a pub in Newcastle and benefits payments from the Department for Work and Pensions.
She said: ‘I can see another person’s bank account, he got paid £6,000 yesterday.’
It is unclear how many other users were affected by the issue.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group said: ‘We’re sorry that some customers experienced an issue viewing transactions in the app for a short time this morning.
‘The issue was quickly resolved and we’re looking into what happened.’
