KANSAS City’s invincibility vanished on one Sunday in Buffalo.
And the Chiefs have gone from runaway AFC leaders to looking over their shoulder at the chasing pack.
Chiefs fans could be forgiven for already booking some non-football activities for Wild Card Weekend.
At 9-0, it looked a formality that Kansas City would seal a first-round bye with the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
But one defeat by the Bills has changed that – and the AFC is a race again.
Buffalo’s win took them to 9-2 while Kansas City dropped to 9-1 for the year.
Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen met at midfield after the game and seemingly made plans to “do it again.”
A showdown between the Chiefs and Bills in the playoffs again seems on the cards.
But other results in the AFC last weekend mean it’s far from a two-horse race.
And the Chiefs have to be careful not to slip up and lose their AFC West division title.
The Los Angeles Chargers took down the Cincinnati Bengals in the prime time showdown Sunday.
LA improved to 7-3 and is rejuvenated under new head coach Jim Harbaugh.
There’s never been a talent problem in Los Angeles, but now they have a coach who is a winner and whose teams are tough to beat.
Los Angeles faces some tough games against the Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons.
But their clash with the Kansas City Chiefs in prime time on Sunday, December 8 looms on the horizon.
Fortunately for Kansas City, they can bounce back from their loss last week with a game against the Carolina Panthers.
They should also beat the Cleveland Browns before the Chargers showdown, and preserve their one-loss record.

Friday, November 29 – vs Las Vegas Raiders, 3 pm ET
Sunday, December 8 – vs Los Angeles Chargers, 8.20 pm ET

But their biggest threat to a first-round bye could come from the yellow and black in Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Steelers improved to 8-2 with a tough, gritty win over AFC North rivals the Baltimore Ravens.
The Steelers followed up with a disappointing loss to the Browns on Thursday Night Football this week.
And they will face the Chiefs on Christmas day live around the world on Netflix.
Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium will be pumped up for that clash – especially if a win would mean they could leapfrog Kansas City in the standings.
Both the Chiefs and Steelers face a huge Saturday just four days before that clash.
Kansas City hosts the playoff hunting and dangerous Houston Texans.
While the Pittsburgh Steelers have a reverse fixture against the Baltimore Ravens in a game that’s always close.
Steelers fans would surely love nothing more for Christmas than to beat both the Ravens on December 21 and the Chiefs on December 25 to take the lead in the AFC race.
