With millions of SMEs in Nigeria, Bujeti and SMEDAN join forces to deliver financial tools that enhance structure, accountability, and funding access for businesses nationwide.
Bujeti, the all-in-one financial operations platform tailored for African businesses, has entered into a landmark partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to strengthen the operational backbone of Nigerian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
This strategic alliance aims to equip SMEs with the digital tools needed to manage finances efficiently, ensure accountability, and improve their access to funding. By combining Bujeti’s intuitive technology with SMEDAN’s extensive grassroots network, the partnership will support the digital transformation of thousands of SMEs, transitioning them from fragmented, manual workflows to structured financial management systems.
“SMEs don’t just need capital, they need control,” said Cossi Achille Arouko, CEO and Founder of Bujeti. “Through this partnership with SMEDAN, we’re laying the critical foundation for sustainable growth, giving business owners the systems they need to manage spending, improve transparency, and build operational trust that opens doors to funding and scalability.”
Despite contributing over 46% of Nigeria’s GDP and employing more than 84% of the national workforce, most Nigerian SMEs still operate with little to no financial structure. This lack of formal systems has resulted in limited access to credit, weak internal controls, and stunted business growth.
Recognising this gap, Bujeti and SMEDAN have committed to accelerating the adoption of financial management tools among hundreds of thousands of small businesses. This includes:
- Real-time expense tracking and approvals
- Automated reimbursements
- Smart corporate cards with spending limits
- Invoicing and payroll tools
- Cash flow dashboards and audit-ready financial records
These features are critical to reducing financial mismanagement, enforcing budgetary control, and improving an enterprise’s eligibility for institutional funding.
SMEDAN, through its national network and influence, will lead the sensitisation and onboarding of SMEs onto the Bujeti platform. Registered businesses will undergo targeted training sessions designed to simplify adoption and demonstrate real-world use cases.
Ado Bello, Director, Enterprise Development and Partnership at SMEDAN, emphasised the importance of this partnership: “Our partnership with Bujeti enables us to deliver real value, beyond capital, by embedding structure, financial literacy, and discipline into the way SMEs operate daily. We believe that giving small businesses access to tools that improve accountability and control is essential to their long-term resilience and ability to scale.”
To mark the official launch, Bujeti and SMEDAN will co-host a virtual event titled “How SMEs Can Grow Their Businesses with Structure.” The session will bring together:
- SMEDAN policy leaders
- Bujeti product and training experts
- Successful SME founders and operators
The event will provide actionable insights on operational discipline, how it enables access to funding, and practical steps for SMEs to build financial systems that scale with their growth.
This partnership is part of a broader movement to reduce financial exclusion among Nigerian SMEs by providing them with the operational infrastructure that drives growth. By digitising internal processes, SMEs can position themselves as credible and trustworthy partners for lenders, suppliers, and investors.
“When SMEs can demonstrate control, transparency, and structure in their operations, it changes everything—from how they manage money to how others engage with them,” said Samy Chiba, COO and Co-founder of Bujeti.
