IPHONE owners have noticed that a basic Apple app is taking up a huge amount of space on their devices.
And they can’t even delete the app.
The apparent “bug” eating into storage space has been reported by a small number of users on social media – but it might be worth checking in case yours has the same problem.
And the app in question is Apple Maps.
It doesn’t appear to be a new problem either, with complaints dating back several months on Reddit of the app taking more than 20GB of space.
“I noticed that my maps app is taking 20gb of storage, so I tried delete or offload the app, didnt work,” the frustrated iPhone owner wrote.

“Updated system to see if it would fix.
“Nothing has changed, except now I can’t even delete or offload the app because it asks me to pick another “default app” but due to region thats not an option in settings. Does anyone know how to solve this?”
TechRadar has brought up the issue again after another user spotted a total of 13.93GB mysteriously swallowed up.
In there case, it’s made the update for iPhone to the latest version of iOS impossible as there isn’t enough space for it.

And data clearing methods don’t appear to change anything.
That includes the Clear History trick which usually sorts things out in these sorts of situations.
But it has worked for some users on Reddit, so you might want to give it a try if you’ve noticed a big chunk occupied by Apple Maps.
You can do this by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations & Routes > Clear History.
If they don’t work there is one final solution – but it’s a drastic one.
Doing a complete back-up of data and doing a factory reset.
Just be sure to back everything up – you can do this via iCloud by going to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.
