China installed 295,000 industrial robots in 2024, exceeding the combined total of all other markets, according to the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). Globally, 524,000 new units were deployed, bringing the number of robots in operation to 4.46 million, up 9% year-on-year. China accounted for 2.03 million of these, maintaining its lead as the world’s largest market.
Robot usage remained highest in China, followed by Japan with 450,000 units, the US with 400,000, and South Korea with 392,000. The New York Times, citing unpublished IFR data, noted that China also became the world’s top manufacturer, with its share of industrial robot production rising from one-quarter in 2023 to one-third in 2024, surpassing Japan for the first time.
