Citrix Systems Inc., a business unit of Cloud Software Group Inc., today announced that it had acquired Unicon GmnH, a thin client provider, for an undisclosed price.
Founded in 1993 and based in Karlsruhe, Germany, Unicon specializes in hybrid client software, offering services including security endpoint operating system eLux and enterprise platform Scout.
The company’s eLux OS is an ultra-lightweight, highly secure x86 endpoint operating system designed to help organizations scale and secure their end-user computing environments. The platform is hardware-agnostic, modular by design and uses relatively few resources.
Enterprise platform Scout is a solution suited for quick deployments, offering granular control and easy management of endpoint devices operating in various scenarios, including office, remote office and borderless office environments. Scout allows information technology administrators to manage large fleets of endpoints, integrate different x86 device platforms, and monitor expansive environments.
Unicon’s solutions are designed to help organizations scale, manage and secure their endpoints, streamline IT operations and budgets and extend the life of endpoint devices. The company’s lean solutions for end-user computing allow businesses to deploy digital workspaces with ease, supporting their cloud journeys and enhancing overall operational efficiency.
With the acquisition of Unicon, Citrix plans to provide its customers with secure client OS and endpoint management that improves endpoint security, resiliency and operational costs while providing a seamless end-to-end experience for access to corporate applications and desktops. In addition, Citrix enterprise customers will also be able to leverage eLux to extend the life of their current assets as they look to the upcoming Windows 10 end of support.
“The hybrid work model embraced by countless companies today brings tremendous opportunities for employees, as well as challenges for IT teams who must balance security, performance, scalability and cost savings,” Citrix co-President Sridhar Mullapudi said in a statement. “Our acquisition of Unicon will enable our customers to maximize the value of their endpoints, giving users secure access to the Citrix platform without the need for additional software purchases.
Coming into the acquisition, Unicon was owned by its management along with a family-backed investor who acquired all the shares of the company from Fujitsu Technology Solutions GmbH in 2021.
The acquisition is Citrix’s third in recent times, with the company having acquired deviceTRUST GmbH and strong.network SA in December.
