I have nearly a decade of experience professionally testing robot vacuums and other smart home gadgets, so here are my answers to three of the most frequently asked questions about buying a new robot vacuum, especially around a sales event like Black Friday.

Do Robot Vacuum Prices Drop on Black Friday? 

Yes. Robot vacuums are one category that regularly sees massive deals on highly rated models during all of the discount holidays like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Prime Day. If you want to buy into the category or upgrade your current model, generally speaking, you should wait for a nice discount on the model you want, and Black Friday is a good day to find such a discount. This November, we’ve already seen some of our favorite models for up to 60% off.

What Makes a Good Robot Vacuum Deal? 

Short answer: Aim for at least 30% off the sticker price. Robot vacuums go on sale all the time, so with a little patience you’re likely to find a solid deal on any model that interests you.

Long answer: Look for a price tier drop. Some cheap models that cost less than $300 can thoroughly clean your floors, but they usually lack advanced navigation, so they can’t recognize specific rooms or restricted zones. They also typically lack a self-emptying base station, which saves a lot of upkeep hassle and allergy irritation. 

Midrange models run anywhere from $300 to $1,000 and add those features. You might also find vacuum and mop hybrids at the midrange price point. 

If priced above $1,000, a robot vacuum qualifies as a premium model. At that price, you should expect vacuuming and mopping capabilities, self-emptying functionality, and advanced navigation as table stakes. Beyond that, high-end models should be able to wash and dry their own mop, and some have extras like a built-in camera for home surveillance. 

On Black Friday, look for high-end models that drop to midrange prices, midrange ones that hit the low end, or cheap models that are even cheaper.
