DJI and Insta360, two of China’s leading imaging technology firms, showcased competing products at the IFA 2025 consumer electronics fair held in Berlin, from September 5 to 9, suggesting an emerging rivalry in 360-degree cameras and drones.
DJI is best known for its consumer and professional drones, while Insta360 specializes in 360-degree and action cameras. However, both companies have begun encroaching on each other’s turf, with DJI venturing into 360-degree cameras and Insta360 introducing drones.
Why it matters: The face-off reflects a wider trend in consumer electronics, where product categories are converging and firms are moving beyond their traditional domains.
Details: At the IFA 2025, DJI unveiled its first panoramic camera, the Osmo 360, while Insta360 showcased its first 8K panoramic aerial drone, the Antigravity A1.
- Launched in July, the DJI Osmo 360 is the company’s first panoramic camera to feature a square 1-inch CMOS sensor. Weighing 183 grams, the device supports native 8K panoramic video recording with 13.5 stops of dynamic range, allowing it to capture details in high-contrast scenes such as cityscapes at night or sunrise and sunset.
- The camera includes DJI’s D-Log M mode with 10-bit color depth, capable of recording over one billion colors to provide flexibility in post-production. A magnetic quick-release system ensures compatibility with Osmo Action accessories, while the use of an invisible selfie stick enables third-person perspective shooting. In terms of battery, the Osmo 360 can record continuously for up to 100 minutes in 8K/30fps mode and supports fast charging to 50% in 12 minutes.
- Insta360 unveiled the Antigravity A1, its first 8K panoramic aerial drone, designed around a “flight and shooting separation” concept. Equipped with dual panoramic lenses and 360-degree image stitching, the drone enables users to capture complete aerial footage in a single flight and reframe it freely in post-production.
- The 249-gram device ships with Vision flight goggles and a Grip motion controller, allowing head-tracking and gesture-based controls for an intelligent flying experience. It also includes automatic landing gear, visual obstacle avoidance, and payload detection systems to enhance safety. The Antigravity A1 will be released in January 2026.
