I know that for several years now, Nintendo has allowed Nintendo Switch Online users to access a catalog of retro games : NES, Super NES, Game Boy or, more recently, Game Cube, many titles are now available at no additional cost. Obviously, the Japanese firm is already preparing the arrival of the next games with the first Nintendo DS titles.
A patent that speaks for itself
As is often the case, we discovered this new patent filed by Nintendo through social networks and in particular on Twitter/X. The latter is not very difficult to understand: obviously, Big N is preparing for the arrival early Nintendo DS games on Switch / Switch 2, since the patent shows multiple systems aimed at running DS games on the manufacturer’s new console via an emulator included in Nintendo Switch Online.

Nintendo DS coming to NSO Confirmed! Patent Discovery of a lifetime! Breaking News! The following patent shows how Nintendo will manage the dual screen situation on Switch 2. You will have 3 options.

We can see that Nintendo should offer three ways to play with an option of dual screenand single screen (picture-in-picture) and a mode allowing to switch at any time from one screen to another. This is typically how most DS emulators work.
So, as always, this should be taken with a grain of salt, since these remain patents. Generally, patents are carried out as part of medium or long term projects. This does not always mean that the project is successful. But, knowing that Nintendo has already offered many games via emulation systems, this remains the logical next step. To be continued!
