Eagles make stunning cut decision of former NFL first-round pick

The former first-round pick was acquired in a trade over the offseason.

As the preseason wraps up, teams are making their final decisions on cutting players.

The Eagles have started making their decisions by cutting Green.

Green was part of a trade with the Houston Texans this offseason.

The Texans packaged him and a fifth-round pick in return for CJ Gardner-Johnson and a sixth-round pick.

Green was taken with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

He was a two-time All-American at Texas A&M.

He played in 15 games during his rookie season, starting 14 of them.

However, a shoulder injury kept him out for the entirety of the 2023 season.

Green returned in 2025, playing in 12 games and starting nine of them.

However, he was dealt after the season and is now unemployed.

Eagles fans were unhappy with the news, feeling like they should never have traded for Green in the first place.

“In a trade that already felt like the Texans won, this removes all doubt,” one fan said.

“Gave away CJGJ for practically nothing,” another fan said.

“In other words, we essentially gave CJ Gardner Johnson to the Texans for free,” a third fan said.

“Can’t see his career lasting too much longer,” a fourth fan said.

“Damn. I really wanted him to succeed,” a fifth fan said.

Green now has limited time to find himself on a new NFL roster.

There is just over a week until the first game is played on September 4.
