On the occasion of the renewal ofAlien : Earth at FX, Noah Hawley announced that he had reached an overall agreement with Disney Entertainment Television. The objective for both parties is to hatch several major series for FX and therefore Disney+ in France. We didn’t have to wait very long to get the end of this story. Hawley is working on another iconic saga, this time in the video game department. According to information from Varietyhe is creating an adaptation of Far Cryfranchise owned by Ubisoft.
He will not be alone in this enterprise since Rob Mac is also there. The one who was recently called Rob McElhenney is also rather familiar with the video game world and Ubisoft, he dedicated a series to it. Until 2025, he was the creator and poster of Mythic Quest on Apple TV+. The series in the vein of Parks and Recreation et The Office evolved around the life of a video game studio. The comedy was not renewed, despite the rather laudatory reviews. Ubisoft was involved in the production process, a collaboration that arguably made Mac Rob the ideal candidate for an adaptation of Far Cry. It will also be main actor of the series.
A Fargo-style anthology?
If we still know little about the project, the creators have spoken about their ideas. It should be about delivering an anthology in the style of Fargo, also created by Noah Hawley. The screenwriter and showrunner explains: “What I love about the Far Cry franchise is its anthological side. Each game is a variation on a theme, just as each season of Fargo is a variation on a theme. Create a series of spectacular actions that evolve from year to year, while exploring human nature through this complex and chaotic prismis a dream come true. I am delighted to collaborate with Rob and bring to the screen our shared vision, which is both irreverent and ambitious”.
It remains to be seen whether the games’ plots will be adapted to the letter or whether the two men will explore well-known characters. As a reminder, Far Cry was born in 2004 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The first game directed by Cevat Yerli and written by Alexis Nolent followed Jack Carver, a former soldier of the American armed forces sent to Micronesia to investigate the actions of a scientist whose goal was to invade the world with his mutants.
Six games have been offered since then, the last one dates back to 2021. It was set on the fictional Caribbean island of Yara, inspired by Cuba. It followed Dani Rojas, a member of the local guerrilla fighting against the country’s dictator, Anton Castillo. These are all the stories and characters that could be summoned for the series which does not yet have a release or start date. His announcement is still a good indicator.
