In Less than a week, two companies dedicated to telecommunications have announced their respective EREs in Spainwhich are added to the one that Telefónica announced a few weeks ago and which represents the departure of 4,525 jobs from the company. On this occasion they are Ericsson Spain and Avatel Telecom those that are going to eliminate jobs. For now, it is unknown how many workers the layoffs will affect at the two companies. It is also not known which areas will be impacted. Both companies have already made the movement public and have announced to the unions the announcement of their intention to undertake an employment regulation file.
Ericsson announced the ERE in Spain just a few hours agobut still It has not clarified how many of its workers it will affectnor to what areas. At the moment, the company has only confirmed to the unions that it is going to start it, with few other details.
From the company, as they have communicated to their employees, they have made the decision «after a thorough analysis of the company’s current situation, to ensure our competitiveness in the current complex environment in which we operate and improve our efficiency«. Currently, Ericsson Spain has a workforce of more than 2,200 employees in our country.
The procedure that Ericsson Spain will follow with respect to this ERE is the same as that usually used for this type of collective dismissal. After the communication of the ERE to the unions, they will designate in the coming days the representatives who will form the table in which the conditions of the employment regulation file with the company will be negotiated.
Once the table has been composed, and negotiations have begun, during the following weeks the conditions of the dismissals will be agreed upon. If everything goes as planned by both parties, this period will last approximately one month, so there is still some time for all the details of the departures of Ericsson’s Spanish subsidiary to be known. However, it is possible that the ERE will be executed towards the end of February or the beginning of March.
As to Avatel Telecommade his public on January 7. Fifth telecommunications operator in Spain, its current ERE is going to take place only a year and a half after undertaking another that affected 674 of its employees. According to the company, the ERE is due to the delicate economic situation that the company is going through.
Furthermore, Avatel points out as another reason for this measure the existence of a highly complex and competitive market environment, which is both reducing its stability and endangering the long-term sustainability of its business. Currently, according to Europa Press, its workforce is made up of 1,800 workers. Negotiations are expected to begin in the coming days that will determine the total number of layoffs and the conditions of workers’ departure.
