The 1st of the month is an opportunity to make some changes in the daily life of the French. We take stock of what awaits you in August
Bad news for the booklet A
By government decision, and faced with the withdrawal of inflation in recent months (0.88% in the first half of 2025), the rate of the booklet fell at 1.7% against 2.4% previously, from August 1. The LDDS (Sustainable and Solidarity Development Booklet) follows the same curve. As for the popular savings book (LEP), it descends to 2.7%, its rate having the obligation to be slightly higher than that of booklet A. A solidarity gesture for the most modest households, to which the savings book is intended.
Linky counter: tolerance ends for the irreducible
From August 1, consumers who still refuse the Linky counter (around 2.1 million households according to the latest figures) will have to pay a new line on their electricity bill. Every two months, a fixed amount of € 6.48 excl. Tax (or € 38.88 annually) will be charged for the management of the old counter. If they have not transmitted their consumption index for over a year, Additional costs of € 4.14 excl. can be added (i.e., in total, up to € 64 per year in the worst case). One more argument to go to the green box.
VAT on gas and electricity
Realizing a European directive dating from 2018, the French state will harmonize VAT rules for the energy bill. The reduced rate of 5.5% so far applied to the Gas and Electricity Subscription Party will soon reach 20%. From now on, fixed share and variable share will be taxed at the same rate, simplifying the invoice certainly, but weighing the note for subscribers – even if the subscription share weighs, in general, less than 20% of the total invoice.
To limit the impact of this increase, the government, however, provides for a decreasing adjustment of the expansion on consumption: it will increase to € 29.98/MWh for electricity (against € 33.70 so far) and € 15.43/MWh for gas (instead of € 17.16).
Gas, stable, but not too much
The Energy Regulation Commission continues to publish a Price for the sale of gas to the use of residential customers each month. In August 2025, the trend remains in stability: the kWh for cooking/hot water is displayed at € 0.13920 including tax, the one for heating at € 0.10801 including tax. Prices almost identical to those in July, which will allow consumers to blow a little before the start of the school year.
