It has been eight years already since System76 announced Thelio as their own built-in-the-USA, custom-engineered cases for desktops and workstations. System76 Thelio is an open hardware design and built exceptionally well out of their facilities in Colorado. System76 Thelio has served them well for their range of desktop systems over the years from ARM64 developer workstations to high-end AMD Linux systems. Now though they are preparing to introduce their next-generation Thelio design. Ahead of the announcement next week, here is an exclusive first look at the next-gen Thelio hardware.
System76 sent over one of their new Thelio systems powered by AMD Ryzen 9000 series and featuring their completely redesigned chassis that remains an open-source hardware design. Since last month System76 has been teasing a redesigned Thelio and ahead of next week’s formal announcement, they have permitted Phoronix to share some early thoughts and pictures of this next-gen Linux desktop system. Thanks System76!
I will have up my full review on the new System76 Thelio Mira next week while today is a look at this new Thelio chassis that takes a much more modern approach compared to the original Thelio with the wood veneer inserts on the front. The front panel of the new Thelio is now made out of tempered glass.
The new System76 Thelio Mira was inspired by their approach to “Precision Industrialism” that emphasizes clarity, durability, and purpose.
The new Thelio design also adds long sought after front I/O ports.
The quality of the System76 Thelio manufacturing remains top notch… For those that haven’t had their hands on a System76 Thelio before, the quality is right aligned with the best cases from SilverStone in terms of both the design elements and build quality.
On the side panel is a steel mesh to help with airflow.
