Within a month in July loaded with blockbusters, Superman Take ahead of Marvel competition and resuscitates on the big screen three years after his last appearance during the post-generic scene of Black Adam. But if you know, the film that was going to upset the DC universe. The end point to the plot
It was a desire displayed by James Gunn, that of not too ostensibly connecting his films within this new DCU. So, of course, everyone will appreciate their idea or not of what is ostensible or not. Nevertheless, it must be recognized that in the state, if this Superman presents itself as an adventure within a much wider story -like a comic arc -, the end of the film does not intend to push us absolutely to run towards the next chapter.
Clark and Laws managed to stop the ambitions of Lex Luthor who leaves for the prison of Belle Reve, that in which Amanda Waller recruits her meta-humans for her suicide Squad. Kal-El finds his fortress of solitude with his repaired robots and relaxes by looking at images of his parents. Unlike the prologue, this time it is his adoptive parents, thus marking the humanity of the character more than his extraordinary capacities. END. Do we want a suite? Obviously. Could the story also stop there? Just as much. And the post-generic scenes confirm it.
Two light scenes failing to be capital
Indeed, James Gunn stands out from Marvel and his own guards of the Galaxy by not opening his feature film through these famous bonus sequences. The first simply takes up a plan known during the marketing campaign with Superman and Krypto observing the earth from the Moon. A scene of just a few seconds completely disconnected from the rest of the film.
The second chooses to add a layer of humor with Superman and Mister Terrific observing the consequences of the fault with a building having resumed its initial shape. Or almost. The Kryptonian points out that the walls are no longer symmetrical. Which has the gift of annoying his comrade, incredulous in the face of the concern for the detail of Sup ‘where they will have spent their time solving much more serious problems. The sequence is fun as much in a terrific coming out of his usual stoicism as of a superman reproaching his too large franchise. A scene that strengthens the link between the two heroes who saved the city, but, again, unimportant in terms of a suite.
An obvious open
And what it means that Superman intends to start a franchise without making the effort of a witness pass? Never. James Gunn simply chooses to open his universe shared directly within the story. There is no shortage of examples. We can cite the presence of Guy Gardner as a starting point towards the body of the Green Lantern, point which will soon be exploited in the series Lanterns. We also think of the fleeting appearance of Max Lord (played by Sean Gunn)whose role will be of primary importance in the following project of the DCU to arrive on our screens, season 2 of Peacemakerfrom the Next August 21 on HBO Max.
Finally, the biggest index concerning the future of the DCU took place in the fortress of solitude at the end of the film with the arrival of a character whose very) very (very) strongly suspected of the casting. Milly Alcock made her first appearance in costume of Supergirlcompletely drunk.
We then understand that Krypto is actually his dog and it is from her that he holds his lack of obedience. She came to get him before flying off again. Kal-El explains to his robots that Kryptonians cannot get drunk on earth because of their extraordinary resistance and that Kara travels under the influence of a red sun-sun depriving them of their capacities-to be able to have fun.
Information that directly echoes the scenario of the next DCU film, Supergirl, whose cinema is planned for the June 24, 2026 with us and which will be inspired by the Woman of Tomorrow comics. He begins on the heroine getting drunk in a bar on another planet. The story continues and the continuation to the next episode as they say.
