The F1 season came to a thrilling close last weekend and, if you’re enduring a little Grand Prix withdrawal, Apple TV has the remedy. The F1 flick starring Brad Pitt, which was insanely successful at the box office earlier this summer, is now available to stream on Apple TV at no additional cost to subscribers.
The company’s most successful movie yet – perhaps barring Coda, which actually won the Best Picture Oscar – arrives after drawing $630 million at the box office. The film, which is directed by Joseph Kosinski of Top Gun: Maverick fame (and yes, that’s very much the vibe), tells the story of a washed up driver played by Pitt, who is lured back to the track. It’s the oldest tale in the sports movie playbook and it’s usually a winner. This is no exception.
Interestingly, the bombastic sports flick is a prelude to lots more Formula 1 action being available on Apple TV in the near future.
In the Untied States, the company has won the rights to broadcast real world F1 races to begin the 2026 season. Also, as part of an Apple TV subscription, it promises a pretty sweet multi-view feature that enables viewers to enjoy multiple perspectives during the race, including driver helmet cameras. The latter was a feature US fans previously needed a subscription to F1.TV to access. It appears that’ll no longer be the case.
We’re also really looking forward to the possibilities with the Apple Vision Pro headset. Apple hasn’t confirmed anything, but there’s surely potential for Immersive Video and Spatial Audio, albeit probably not for live races yet.
That’d give viewers the impression they’re at the race, watching from the royal box at Monaco. Or sitting next to Nigel Mansell. Or something.
