FEX 2509 is out today as the latest monthly update to this open-source emulator allowing unmodified x86/x86_64 games and applications to run in ARM64 Linux environments.
This alternative to the likes of Box64 and QEMU-User allow for running an increasing number of x86 games/applications on ARM hardware, including Windows software by way of Wine/Proton. As is often the case, FEX 2509 furthers along its Just In Time (JIT) engine as well as bringing other performance enhancements.
FEX 2509 brings a variety of JIT improvements, including some targeted optimizations when detecting Mono running on ARM64EC/WOW64. The Mono-specific performance hacks should yield “less stutter, more performance.” Plus there are a variety of other JIT fixes and improvements.
FEX 2509 also now disables 3DNow! support by default for the Wine WOW64 binary to workaround an issue uncovered in at least one game leading to a black screen. Plus a variety of other bug fixes and other improvements.
