THE Super Bowl has beefed up security follow the terrorist attack in New Orleans.
The Super Bowl is being hosted at the Caesars Super Dome, the home of the New Orleans Saints.
With the attack on Bourbon Street taking place in the same city as the Super Bowl venue, organizers are working to beef up security.
Thousands of fans will be traveling to the city for the big game and organizers don’t want anyone to get hurt.
“We’ve increased our security posture significantly so that people can come here, they can see a strong law enforcement presence,” Eric DeLaune, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New Orleans told ESPN.
“My goal was that you couldn’t walk a city block in downtown New Orleans without at least encountering one law enforcement official.
“I’m not trying to make people afraid. I want people to see that we’re prepared.”
There will reportedly be SWAT teams, armored vehicles, and special agents on rooftops in New Orleans.
The NFL’s Chief Security Officer shared that the terror attack caused them to need to change their planning.
“I’d like to say it doesn’t change a lot in our security planning, but it does change things,” Cathy Lanier said.
“Are we doing anything differently? Of course.”
The terror attack occurred on New Years and caused the Sugar Bowl to be postponed.
That game also saw heightened security when it was played at a later date.
To ensure another attack doesn’t occur, organizers launched a campaign for citizens to report any suspicious activity ahead of the Super Bowl.
“A lot of times people are intimidated by the process of reporting things because they’re concerned they’re going to look foolish if it turns out to be nothing,” DeLaune said.
“We’re not concerned about that. We want you to know if you see something that concerns you, if there’s something odd or different, speak up.
