The good news keeps coming for Disney fans. Until then, the start of 2025 was shaping up to be difficult for the entertainment giant. The separation between the firm and Canal+ was indeed about to lead to drastic changes for access to Disney content and channels in France. In addition to the removal of Disney+ from the broadcaster’s various bouquets, the studio’s productions will no longer be offered in the catalog six months after their theatrical release, while the definitive disappearance of Disney Channel already seemed to be on the horizon. But the parent company of Mickey Mouse has already found new major allies on French territory.
Earlier today, we learned of the deployment of a new distribution agreement with Orange. Preferential rate for Disney+, films available for rental or digital purchase 4 months after their theatrical release, the inclusion of Disney Channel and National Geographic on decoders… The American giant reproduces at Orange its old contract with Canal almost at the identical. But this internet service provider will not be the only one to welcome Disney to its services. It’s now Free’s turn to announce some nice surprises for its Freebox subscribers. If you are a Free customer, here is everything you need to know about the imminent arrival of Disney in the ISP’s offers.
New channels at no extra cost
Finally, the divorce between Canal and Disney is good for French viewers. From January 1, 2025, Disney Channel and National Geographic will also join the Freebox offers, without Price change. Xavier Niel’s company announces that it has signed an agreement with the big-eared firm to add the two channels to its basic bouquet. This addition will therefore concern all Freebox and 5G box packages.
The internet service provider also confirms that the arrival of the channels concerns new Freebox subscribers as well as existing subscribers. The Disney+ distribution agreement with advertising within the Freebox Ultra offer has also been renewed : enough to continue to guarantee access without conditions of duration. In order to ensure the success of its content and its channels outside of Canal services, it is not impossible that Disney establishes other partnerships of this type with other French providers. The entertainment giant would have every interest in expanding its presence in as many homes as possible in France to compensate for the loss of Canal spectators.
