Whether it is a forgotten e-commerce site, a blog that you no longer read or a weather bulletin that you have never opened, email subscriptions often accumulate without even realizing it. Gmail will now allow you to see more clearly with a novelty: a centralized view of all the emails to which we subscribed, accessible via the side menu of the application.
A unique interface to group everything
Simply called “Managing subscriptions”, this function displays the list of sender who regularly send emails – newsletters, promotions or various updates – with, in front of each, a button to unsubscribe. Google specifies that the list is classified according to the frequency of shipments, to better target the most invasive sender.
If you hesitate to unsubscribe, a simple support allows you to consult the recent messages of a sender to decide whether or not to remain in the reception box. And in the event that the unsubscription button does not work (some services still redirect to a web page), Gmail offers an alternative: blocking the sender squarely.
This novelty may seem obvious, but it has taken time to emerge. Google spoke about it for the first time more than a year ago, but without making it immediately functional. She reappeared at the start of the year with a small group of users, before being finally formalized in July. The deployment is underway on Android, iOS and the web version of Gmail, but it will take a few days, even a few weeks, to see it appear everywhere.
Timing may surprise, especially since Gmail already offered a unsubscribe in one click for certain messages. But the tool lacked an overview to allow users to sort effective. It is now done.
Google takes the opportunity to recall that Gmail filters already more than 99.9 % of spam, phishing attempts and other malicious messages. The new function is not intended to replace these protections, but to offer more control to users on the type of content they wish to keep – or not. A way also to limit digital noise, without having to search the parameters or go through third -party services.
Until the function is active in all users, it is possible to continue to unsubscribe manually from each message. But for those whose reception box overflows, this small button “Managing subscriptions” may well become an essential.
