Google has recently introduced the Android XR as the latest operating system specifically designed for reality devices. The OS also extends support for Gemini AI assistant. The same will be most probably added to the mixed reality headsets and the smart glasses as well. Google has also mentioned that OS will bring features that will work on artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR).
Google Android XR OS details one should know
As claimed by Google, the first developer preview of Android XR was released on December 12, 2024. It will enable apps and game development for all the upcoming devices that will arrive with the latest operating system. The OS also comes with support for tools used by developers creating Android applications like Jetpack Compose, Android Studio, OpenXR, and Unity.
The latest Android XR operating system will let the users also access the Gemini AI assistant of Google. The feature has been designed for unmatchable XR experiences. With the latest updates, users will be able to talk to the assistant and ask questions related to objects and locations within the field of view. And users can also use the Circle to Search feature that is available on a handful of Android phones.
Google also stated that the in-house applications like Google TV, Google Photos, and YouTube, will be revamped to work on the virtual display. Additionally, Google Maps will also offer support for the Android XR OS via an Immersive View feature. Users will also be able to browse the web using Google Chrome on a considerably large screen.
That’s not it, Google has also announced that the first device with the Android XR is codenamed Project Moohan. Google will also bring the Android XR on smart glasses and they can offer multiple features related to the same as well. Expectations are that we will get to see new glasses with the Android XR pretty soon.
