Google I/O 2026, the Internet giant’s annual conference with developers, will be held on May 19 and 20 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California, and can be followed online worldwide through official Google channels, via the web or on YouTube.
Events with developers have become the annual reference event of the big technology companies and in addition to serving their own ecosystem with these professionals, they usually include important announcements for operating systems, applications and sometimes presentation of hardware products.
What we expect from Google I/O 2026
Google has not yet published the detailed agenda for the event, but Sundar Pichai, head of the keynote that will open the event, confirmed this week the main script based on:
- Keynote presentations by company executives.
- Live product demonstrations.
- Technical sessions for developers and expansion of the ecosystem.
- Platform, operating systems and application updates.
Google is one of the greats in world AI and as we saw last year, it will have a great role. The assistant Gemini It has been expanding its power in the latest versions and also its scope, including advanced models for image generation (Nano Banana) or more recently Lyria 3, the most advanced model for music generation developed by Google DeepMind.
Google has significantly expanded its Generative AI over the past year, and Gemini updates are expected to be a major part of the event. The company has already confirmed that it will feature prominently in Google I/O 2026 announcements. Ahead of the conference, Google launched a save-the-date experience, powered by Gemini. The site allows you to experiment with AI-generated content and remix results, demonstrating its continued focus on AI as a creative and developer tool.
Another interesting section will be knowing the status of Apple and Google’s agreement by which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models (which allows accessing and executing large language models (LLM) directly on Apple devices) will be based on Gemini AI models and Google cloud technology. These models will drive future features of the Apple Intelligence ecosystem, including a new Siri assistant that will arrive this year.
Beyond AI, Android 17the next major version of the operating system that firmly dominates global mobility, will be another focal point of the conference. Google modified the system development schedule by introducing Android Canary as a replacement for Developer Previews and is preparing to launch the first Beta version. In the coming months, a boost to Android development is expected to present the key points of the next version at the conference:
- A formal overview of the next version of Android.
- New APIs for developers.
- Privacy, security and system feature updates.
- Revised design elements and interface changes.
Although Gemini and Android 17 will be the star of the event, updates are expected for its big applications (Maps, Mail, YouTube…) and also other operating systems such as WearOS o el ChromeOS. The company takes advantage of it every year to present new hardware for the Pixel series and it would not be unusual to see a product presentation.
