Samsung is set to delete abandoned accounts, so act fast to save your data.
Samsung plans to delete logins to protect the data of users who haven’t returned to their accounts in the last 24 months.
In an email to users, posted on Reddit, Samsung says the policy is effective July 31, 2025. The earliest date a Samsung account will be deleted under this policy is July 31, 2027, Samsung says, but if you haven’t logged in for a while and want to preserve your account, consider logging in now (either on the web or via a Samsung device), so you don’t forget.
If you switched to another Android phone or the iPhone, it’s possible you haven’t touched your Samsung account in years. But that account could house backups of photos, health stats, app downloads, or even notes made through the Samsung app.
“If an account is deleted, access to the account will be restricted and all data linked to the account will be deleted,” Samsung said in the email to users. “Accounts and data that are deleted cannot be restored. However, some data may be retained in accordance with local legal requirements and applicable legislation.”
Samsung defines account usage/activity as follows:

Creating a Samsung account

Logging in to Samsung services/products using a Samsung account

Using a service/product while logged in with a Samsung account
Exceptions will be made for registered family accounts, accounts with a record of accumulating/using reward points, and accounts used to purchase products on Samsung.com.

Samsung says it will send notifications to your email address before your account is deleted, so make sure those messages aren’t ending up in your spam folder.
Google did something similar back in 2023, deactivating Gmail accounts that hadn’t been used in two years. If you haven’t accessed a service for two years, it’s unlikely you need regular access, but this acts as a reminder that your data won’t always be safe on cloud services.
