Thanksgiving is incredibly late this year, so Christmas shopping is already in full swing. HomeKit accessories make great gifts for any Apple fan. They are usually low-cost and add real value to any smart home setup. For this week’s HomeKit Weekly, I have updated my HomeKit gift guide for 2025 to help you find the perfect addition for your favorite Apple smart home fan.
HomeKit Weekly is a series focused on smart home accessories, automation tips and tricks, and everything to do with Apple’s smart home framework.
Top HomeKit and Home Key door locks
It is hard to overstate the usefulness of a HomeKit door lock. From remote locking and unlocking to automatically unlocking as you walk up, it is a great gift for anyone looking to upgrade their front door. My top pick remains the Level Lock+. With Home Key support, a design that blends in with any decor, and the option to keep using a traditional key, it is tough to beat. I also love the NFC keys. They are perfect for less technical family members.
If you want a keypad and fingerprints, check out the ThorBolt X1. It is a strong choice that was released earlier this year. Like I said earlier, Home Key is basically a nonstarter for me now. Another strong pick is the Level Lock+ (Matter) Smart Lock. Both of these are incredible, but there are countless other great choices at various price points Here is a current list of the best Home Key and HomeKit door locks:
Top HomeKit cameras
HomeKit cameras make excellent gifts, and there is always a reason to add one more. Keep in mind that while many cameras work with HomeKit, not all support HomeKit Secure Video. HKSV provides encrypted recordings in iCloud, smart notifications, and a privacy-first setup. Although I have some serious complaints about HomeKit Secure Video and the lack of 4k support, it’s still an incredible service as well.
For outdoors, there are great options. If you need a floodlight replacement, consider the Eve Outdoor Camera. It has constant power and uses Wi-Fi for video. HomeKit cameras can serve as motion sensors for automating tasks. You can have outdoor lights turn on when motion is detected or trigger other accessories inside the house. Here are some other great HomeKit cameras:
HomeKit gift guide: top HomeKit light bulbs
Smart bulbs are an easy way to get started with HomeKit with plenty of low cost options. Dimming, color temperature, and full color options make a big difference in daily comfort. A few favorites to consider are below, and you can pick based on whether you want pure HomeKit, Thread support, or Matter.
There are a wide range of options here. Integrating all your main lights with HomeKit is a significant upgrade for your daily life.
Best HomeKit smart plugs
HomeKit smart plugs are a great way to automate lamps, coffee makers, fans, and air filters. Plug the adapter into the wall, then plug your device into the adapter. You can now control it using the Home app or Siri. Scheduling is perfect for travel to make your house look occupied. Here are a few to look at:
What to get for the person who has everything
We all have that person on our list who already has every HomeKit product you can think of. For them, the HOOBS Box might be the perfect gift. It’s a bridge that makes even more devices work together. If you have gear that doesn’t play nicely with HomeKit, (like the new Nest doorbell) the HOOBS Box helps bring everything under one roof regardless if it was designed to work with HomeKit or not.
The latest version is built on a custom board with onboard eMMC storage. It uses USB-C for power and includes a Gigabit Ethernet port for high-speed connectivity. Setup is really simple. Plug it up, connect it to your network, and start adding integrations through its built-in web server. It’s a nice gift for the person who has already built out their HomeKit setup but still loves tinkering with what’s next.
There has never been a better time to buy HomeKit gear. Matter support is expanding by the quarter, new accessories are easier to set up than ever, and everything works nicely inside the Home app with plenty of automation options. Whether you are buying for someone who already has a few smart home products or someone just getting started, these devices are practical, fun, and built to last well beyond the holiday season.
