The sun always beams upon Pleasant Court, a cul-de-sac in the fictional Great Ocean Road town of Osprey, where everyone is beautiful, amiable and affluent. Although it may bear a striking resemblance to the setting of “Neighbours ”, this isn’t Ramsay Street. Pulsing just beneath the surface is a collective paranoia that’s either a natural response to new resident Isabelle’s (Teresa Palmer) obsessive, borderline unhinged digging, or proof that she’s asking all the right questions.
Here’s how to watch “The Family Next Door” online from anywhere with a VPN — and potentially for free.

The six-part drama is a loose adaptation of Sally Hepworth’s bestselling novel, lent an extra twist or two by writer Sarah Scheller and “The Newsreader” director Emma Freeman. Isabelle works in child protection, but poses as a travel writer to rent a home from realtor Ange (Bella Heathcote). While her motivations are unclear, it’s not by accident that she’s ended up in Osprey.
Her efforts to weave her way into the lives of her fellow residents expose the community’s faultlines — Essie (Philippa Northeast) is in the grips of postnatal depression and struggling to live up to the expectations of her mother Barb (Catherine McClements), who’s protesting against a new development that Ange is trying to sell to investor Clive (Vince Colosimo), as Lulu (Jane Harber) and Holly (Maria Angelico) struggle to make a success of their new vegan restaurant.
However, her heavy-handed approach and insistence on paying Ange in cash soon sets the women of Pleasant Court talking. Is she a fugitive sex-worker? A drug-dealing babysitter? Their initial theories leave a little to be desired, but favorable comparisons with “Big Little Lies” and “The Perfect Couple” promise a major payoff.
