Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. is making a bold statement in enterprise IT with the launch of its HPE ProLiant Gen12 server portfolio — an innovation-packed lineup designed to supercharge security, efficiency and AI-readiness.
Unveiled at the “Get Future Ready, NOW!” event hosted by theCUBE, News’s livestreaming studio, this latest breakthrough promises a future-proof foundation for businesses navigating AI workloads, hybrid cloud expansion and escalating cybersecurity threats. Here’s what you need to know. (* Disclosure below.)
Security at the core: From silicon to cloud
One of the key takeaways from the event was HPE’s heightened focus on security. As cyber threats become more sophisticated, organizations require IT infrastructure that offers end-to-end protection. HPE has answered this call with the introduction of Secure Enclave and quantum-resistant encryption capabilities within its ProLiant Gen12 servers.
John Carter, vice president of server product, quality, and technical pursuit at HPE, emphasized the importance of a security-first approach:
“It’s not a matter of if you need a more secure system at this point; it’s a matter of when you’re going to need it. We really boot up at HPE around building a security-first system, and that really all centers around the innovation that goes into HPE iLO.”
HPE’s Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) management system now includes Secure Enclave, an isolated vault for encryption keys and system secrets, offering an additional layer of security. The new servers also introduce quantum-resistant encryption algorithms, designed to safeguard enterprises against future cryptographic threats. Additionally, HPE is the first original equipment manufacturer to achieve FIPS 140-3 Level 3 security certification at the baseboard management controller level, setting a new industry benchmark, according to Carter.
Carter further emphasized HPE’s holistic security strategy, highlighting its secure supply chain program:
“We have a secure supply chain program that makes sure that we protect the customer’s environment from manufacturing through shipping, all the way to their door.”
HPE ProLiant Gen12 redefines performance and energy efficiency
HPE’s ProLiant Gen12 servers don’t just enhance security — they also redefine performance and efficiency standards. Compared to previous generations, the new servers offer a 7:1 performance improvement over Gen10 and a 26:1 improvement over Gen8, enabling businesses to consolidate their infrastructure while reducing energy consumption by 65%.
Savannah Peterson, analyst at theCUBE Research, highlighted the substantial leap in capability:
“The Gen12 announcement from HPE is significant. Their Gen12 server is able to do what would have taken 7 of their Gen10 servers and even more of their earlier servers. But, most importantly, it’s future-proof. It’s AI workload friendly and ready for the quantum revolution.”
Krista Satterthwaite, senior vice president and general manager of mainstream compute at HPE, reinforced the importance of keeping IT infrastructure up to date:
“Just because you can run an old server in your data center doesn’t mean that you should run an old server in your data center. Old servers waste time, they waste space, they waste power. They don’t have the latest security, they don’t have the latest management tools, and it’s hard to keep the software — the old software, the old open-source software — maintained. The case for refresh has never been stronger.”
With these advancements, businesses can optimize data center operations, allocating more resources toward next-generation workloads, such as AI and machine learning, while achieving significant cost savings, Satterthwaite added.
AI-driven automation enhancing IT productivity
HPE’s commitment to AI-driven efficiency was another key highlight of the event. The Compute Ops Management platform provides organizations with predictive analytics and automation capabilities, enabling proactive management of IT infrastructure at scale.
Rob Strechay, managing director of theCUBE Research, explained how this innovation benefits IT teams:
“The first thing critical to customers that have come to love the ProLiant line is they will especially love the enhanced AI-driven productivity through HPE Compute Ops Management, which provides insights and time savings for IT teams. This allows organizations to leverage the tools and skills they have to manage even more compute power, allowing organizations to focus on new projects and innovation instead of maintenance.”
By integrating AI-driven insights, IT teams can remotely monitor, update and secure entire fleets of servers across various locations, from data centers to edge deployments. Additionally, HPE’s new power planning tools use AI to predict energy consumption and carbon emissions, allowing enterprises to develop proactive sustainability strategies.
Carter elaborated on this feature, emphasizing its environmental and cost-saving benefits:
“We’ve just introduced some new features around actually taking AI models and providing insights into how we project that your energy usage will happen over the next six months so you can make proactive decisions around environmental, social and governance. We really plan out our power environment because we all know power’s not getting any cheaper, so it gives you that kind of capability to think ahead in your environment.”
A future-proof investment for AI and beyond
The combination of enhanced security, unparalleled performance, and AI-driven automation positions the HPE ProLiant Gen12 servers as a future-proof investment for businesses preparing for AI-driven infrastructure and quantum computing, according to Satterthwaite and Carter.
Peterson summed up the long-term potential of this launch:
“HPE has worked hard on this core piece of infra, and it shows. I’m eager to see what customers do with this now that it’s out in the wild.”
